PUC Issues Update: Flickering Lights Not Caused by Local Distribution System

Sault Ste. Marie, ON (March 31, 2026) — PUC Services Inc. is providing an update on the flickering lights issue that some of our customers have been experiencing. Following a thorough investigation, we have determined that the flickering is not being caused by the local PUC distribution system.

“We thank our PUC customers who have reported their experiences,” said Jairus Patterson, Manager, Customer Experience and Engagement, PUC Services Inc. “Those reports led to detailed city-wide testing and monitoring by PUC, yielding informative data that clearly shows the flickering is not being caused by the PUC distribution system.”

The findings are guiding PUC’s next steps as it works with Hydro One to identify a solution. Hydro One operates the broader transmission system that feeds our distribution system.

“PUC thanks Hydro One for its collaboration and partnership as we work together toward solutions for PUC customers,” said Patterson.

PUC will continue to share updates as more information becomes available.
