PUC Selects S.&T. Group for Transmission Project and Invites Community to Open House

Sault Ste. Marie, ON (May 19, 2026) — PUC (Transmission) LP is working with S.&T. Electrical Contractors Limited, a Division of The Team Group, to deliver key transmission infrastructure in Sault Ste. Marie.

Following a competitive procurement process, S.&T. was selected as the successful proponent based on a comprehensive evaluation of qualifications, experience, and value. S.&T. and their partners will construct a dual-circuit 230 kV transmission line and a transmission station. The line, spanning approximately 10 kilometres, will run from Hydro One’s Third Line Transformer Station to the new 230 kV Tagona West Transformer Station on Yates Avenue.

Construction will begin this spring and is expected to be completed by Q1 of 2028. The project is anticipated to create temporary and permanent employment opportunities during construction and operation. It will also generate indirect jobs through local contractors, suppliers, and service providers.

The transmission lines and station are critical infrastructure investments that will support:

• Algoma Steel’s transition to electric arc steelmaking, reducing GHG emissions by 70%
• System reliability
• Future growth and development
• Energy security for the region

This drop-in information session will provide an opportunity to learn more about upcoming construction activities, speak directly with the project team, and have questions addressed.
